FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

General questions

Construction on the Landmark Project is almost complete. We expect to celebrate the project’s full completion in 2024. We will continue to regularly share progress updates with our donors and contact you directly when your recognition is installed.

The University of Toronto St. George campus is open to the public. If you would like to come to campus to find your recognition and see the project’s progress, you are welcome to visit anytime. For anyone with a paver, we are working on developing a mapping tool to help with locating them. We will be in touch with you when it is ready. If you have any questions about visiting, you can contact us at landmark.project@utoronto.ca. If you are planning a visit, please keep in mind Landmark is still in active construction and will continue to be for the next few months.

Our U of T grounds team maintains the exterior landscape of the campus, including plantings, trees, paving and benches, in accordance with the University's commitment to maintaining the beauty of our campus now and for future generations.

Paver questions

Pavers are integrated into elegant outdoor pedestrian walkways around King’s College Circle. Pavers that have been installed are located near Convocation Hall and Simcoe Hall, and around the J. Robert S. Prichard Alumni House. We have informed all donors who have installed pavers.

All pavers are placed in locations with high pedestrian traffic and protected from vehicle traffic. If you have questions about your location, please contact landmark.project@utoronto.ca.

All pavers purchased in 2022 and earlier have been installed. Use the Paver App to search by your inscription for a map and the location of your paver. When using the app on campus to find your paver, your devices’ GPS will place you in a range of approx. 3-meters to your paver.

Share the location of your paver with family and friends through the Share by Email link.

If you purchased your paver in 2022 and earlier, you would have received a link to the Find My Paver App. We are currently piloting the app and you may see updates to the design over the next few months.

Once your paver is installed, we cannot make any changes. If you have questions about your paver, please email us at landmark.project@utoronto.ca.

You will be emailed a unique link to a portal where you can provide your inscription preferences. If you have questions about the email address we have on file, please contact landmark.project@utoronto.ca to update your contact information.

Unfortunately, we are not able to accommodate location requests given the size of the area and the number of stones involved, but all stones will be placed in a suitable location with high pedestrian traffic and protection from vehicle traffic.

If you have any questions related to the location of your paver, please share them with us by e-mail at landmark.project@utoronto.ca. After your paver is installed, it will be added to the mapping tool that is currently in development that will help donors to locate their paver.

In addition to your inscription, your tree paver will include an engraved illustration of the tree’s leaf, and the Latin name of the species. See below for an example of what your inscribed paver will look like!

The majority of trees will be located within King's College Circle and include the following species: Freeman Maple, American Hornbeam, Appalachian Spring Dogwood, Redbud, Autumn Gold Ginkgo, Honey Locust, Black Tupelo, Accolade Flowering Cherry, Regal Prince Oak, and White Pine.

Donors were informed of their tree species and location when they received their rendering. If you have questions about your tree, please contact landmark.project@utoronto.ca.

Arborists employed a selection and vetting process to identify suitable tree species. Tree species were identified for the landscape by their suitability for the spaces and conditions on campus.

The benches for the Landmark project were selected by our landscape architect for the project.

The selected bench was also reviewed by the University’s Design Review Committee, which advises the University on the development of built form environments, to help the University implement its aims to a level of excellence that matches our academic activities.

The benches are built into the landscape and will be exposed to the elements. The benches are made from thermally modified ash which will offer protection from weather and frequent use. Our U of T grounds team maintains exterior landscape of the campus including maintenance of seating as required.

When your Landmark bench is installed, we will contact you directly to let you know. You are welcome to invite family and friends for a visit to campus to see your recognition when it is ready. In the meantime, if you have any questions about your bench, please contact landmark.project@utoronto.ca.
